I assist programs to create quality services that address the individualized needs of their participants using person-centered strategies through the perspective of the advocate and family.

Start To Finish Projects

These are consulting projects that begin with the service concept and end with an operational program. I am committed to assisting in providing my clients with the best advice and experience in developing their program. If I am not the best person to complete the project, I will be honest and recommend one of my colleagues in the field who may have a stronger background in your desired program. I will also call upon my consulting partners in the field to assist in providing the best recommendations for a successful program. My goal is to ensure that the best program exists for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Thinking Inside and Outside of the Box

Many programs need a variety of strategies to assist in implementing their service vision. My door is open to chat about your desire to provide a service or to troubleshoot an issue that exists in your program. I may recommend a variety of tools, materials, and discussion groups. I may also pull together a team to provide “situational” consultation. This is especially helpful for families who may not know how to navigate their system of service for their child. For those residing in Hawaii and California, my recommendations are based on my experience working in both states providing direct services. For those residing in others states and countries, my advice may be more general, but I will assist in connecting you to the organizations and people that can provide you with what you need. I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but I’m very good as a “solution-finder” helping others get to where they need.

Staff Training, Person-Centered Practices and
Organizational Planning

Staff training is provided based on program need. This can include: infection control, special incident reporting, active treatment, social integration, community engagement, leadership and advocacy, client rights, emergency preparedness, parent training, strategic planning, focus groups, needs assessment, healthy living, etc.

Trainings are conducted in one to one sessions or group settings. Training materials are developed for the individual or organization and placed on a thumb drive for their future use.

Person-Centered training is conducted with the consulting partners as a Train the Trainer. Sessions include hands-on activities, observations at program and in the community, creation of internal advocacy group and staff support for implementation of person-centered plans and activities.

How Do We Provide Our Services?

We have developed a “train the trainer” structure and partnership when working with the provider community. Organizations must commit to allowing a hands-on approach and observations into the workings of their business. Through the lens of advocates and parents, we have brought together a team that can offer guidance in helping individuals and programs strengthen their services and supports to their participants.

Why Do We Use a Train the Trainer Model?

We want to empower people to have the confidence and knowledge to build and grow their business or personal goals. When we walk away from the project, the agency will be accountable in making a positive impact in the lives of the people they support.

We have seen many programs shut down because they hired someone to develop the program and upon operation, could not implement the program independently.

An Organization Wants to Hire Us Because They Do Not Have the Time to Develop Their Program – What Would We Do?

We will not submit a proposal for the work. It’s a red flag to us when an individual does not have the time to establish his or her own business. If it’s an organization with existing programs, we look at their internal structure as to why they don’t have an in-house staff to develop programs, policies and procedures for the organization.  We are willing to come in and train the person.
