Advocates driven by compassion, leadership and commitment to helping people be safe and stay safe!

How it Began

Feeling Safe, Being Safe was created by the California Department of Developmental Disabilities Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) and is an Emergency Preparedness program that equips individuals with disabilities with training and personalized plans in the event of emergency situations.

In its development, the CAC gathered feedback from over 2,000 people across California and concluded that this training was easy-to-understand, easy-to-use and well-received by advocates, families, and providers alike.

It is a program that honors the “Nothing About Us, Without Us” concept from the 1990s, that no decisions should ever be made regarding people with disabilities without their input. As a result, every part of Feeling Safe, Being Safe was designed, approved, and is trained by individuals with disabilities.
